Dr. Jo\u00e3o de Almada Hospital was the first facility to complete the works, with an investment of \u20ac1.2 million spent on installing solar panels, replacing windows and modernizing the lighting systems.<\/p>\n\n<p>These works aim to reduce energy consumption by more than 50%, promoting the financial sustainability of the institutions, increasing thermal comfort for patients and staff, marking this phase as complete and shifting the focus to new projects currently underway or already awarded in the municipalities of Machico, Santana and S\u00e3o Vicente, as well as at the Hospital dos Marmeleiros.<\/p>\n\n<p>In addition to the structural improvements, the plan includes adjustments to regional capacity: the S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 unit will have its capacity increased to 160 beds, whilst the S\u00e3o Jorge unit will be converted exclusively into a care home.
