Record July for the use of efficient aeroplanes in the region
In July 2024, Madeira and Porto Santo airports registered a record number of operations with energy-efficient aircraft, reaching 24.4 per cent of all aircraft, an increase on the 21.2 per cent in July 2023 and 17.3 per cent in 2022. In total, 389 sustainable aeroplanes landed in the region, 359 in Madeira and 30 in Porto Santo, with Airbus leading the way with 333 flights and Boeing with 56.
Airlines such as TAP, easyJet, Lufthansa and Ryanair used these aircraft. Eduardo Jesus, Regional Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture, emphasised that this growing use of efficient aircraft reinforces Madeira’s commitment to sustainable tourism, in line with the EarthCheck certification of ‘Sustainable Tourist Destination’.
