Government Launches Tourist Consumer Guide
The Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Employment and Youth, through the Directorate for Citizenship and Social Affairs (DRAS), will make available the ‘Tourist Consumer Guide’, a practical digital resource that provides essential information on the rights and duties of tourists visiting the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
Part of the ‘Madeira — Capital of Sustainable Tourism’ project, the guide aims to raise awareness among visitors about sustainable and responsible consumption, strengthening trust in the destination and credibility in the regional market. In addition to consumer rights, the guide includes concrete recommendations that encourage behaviours contributing to environmental preservation and more conscious tourism.
The content covers topics such as air and sea travel, car hire, insurance, roundabout driving rules, action in the event of accidents, pricing, and use of the complaints book. Its development was informed by prior consultation with tourists through surveys on their consumer experience in Madeira and suggestions for improvement.
The guide will be accessible via QR codes placed in strategic locations such as airports, ports, and main tourist spots in Madeira and Porto Santo, ensuring easy access during their stay.
This initiative not only aims to provide a safer and more informed visitor experience but also to reinforce Madeira’s identity as a sustainable destination.
