Hazardous materials accident response training held for the first time in Porto Santo

Between 16 and 20 October, Porto Santo hosted, for the first time, the “Accidents involving Hazardous Materials – Initiation” training course, designed to equip firefighters in the Autonomous Region of Madeira with the technical and operational skills essential to be part of response teams to accidents involving hazardous materials.

According to the Civil Protection Secretariat, the training was attended by 11 Porto Santo firefighters and was organised by the Regional Civil Protection Service, through its Training Division. This initiative was accredited by the National School of Firefighters and co-financed by the European Social Fund under the MADEIRA 2030 Programme.

The main objectives of this training were to provide firefighters with specific knowledge and skills to deal with emergency situations involving dangerous substances, thus ensuring a more effective and safer response to any incidents.

The realisation of this training in Porto Santo represents an important milestone for the region, as it strengthens the preparation and readiness of its emergency professionals to face complex challenges and protect the community.
