Madeira nominated ‘World’s Leading Sustainable Destination’
Madeira has been nominated for ‘World’s Leading Sustainable Destination 2024’ by the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards, a new category of the World Travel Awards. This distinction, which was presented for the first time this year, places Madeira among eight destinations, including Mauritius, Belize, Alqueva (Portugal), Palawan (Philippines), Red Sea (Saudi Arabia) and The Pavillions (Himalayas).
This initiative aims to recognise significant contributions to sustainable tourism, reflecting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Voting takes place online from June 18th to August, 2nd 2024, and the winners will be announced on September 27th at the first annual World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards gala in Belize.
The Regional Secretariat for Economy, Tourism and Culture emphasises the importance of this nomination and the need to continue the sustainable journey, reinforcing the commitment to the preservation of natural resources and Madeira’s reputation as a sustainable destination.
