Summer Opening Festival Promotes Sustainability in Collaboration with Greener Act

This year, the Summer Opening Festival is teaming up with Greener Act to promote sustainability by combining community action and art. According to a press release, a sculpture in the shape of a whale will be presented, created by local artist António Vieira, which celebrates the island’s marine ecosystem and emphasises the importance of its preservation.

Festival attendees are invited to contribute to this cause by collecting rubbish and depositing it in the whale sculpture throughout the event. In addition, the festival will organise a beach clean-up, where attendees can help protect and preserve the coastline, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

This initiative is part of ‘Sustainable Summer in Madeira’ – an innovative programme that brings together community, sustainability and technology. To join this cause, simply sign up via the Greener Act app, where you can find various events, including beach cleans, clothes swaps, and carbon offsetting activities.
