Teatro Metaphora receives international award
The Green Steps project, developed by Teatro Metaphora – Association of Friends of the Arts, has been honoured with the international Connecting Cultures award, granted by Corps Touristique e.V. as part of the CT Award, which recognises innovative initiatives linking tourism, sustainability and intercultural dialogue.
The distinction highlights Green Steps as an example of responsible tourism best practice, underlining the capacity of culture and participatory art to promote environmental awareness, community engagement and the enhancement of local identity in territories experiencing strong tourism pressure.
Active since 2015, the project develops long-term environmental education and cultural intervention actions, involving local communities, young people and international volunteers in initiatives such as artistic installations using urban waste, rehabilitation of natural spaces, eco-marathons and educational programmes. Its approach integrates sustainability, civic participation and environmental awareness, strengthening connections between visitors, residents and territory.
This international recognition consolidates Madeira’s positioning as a space of cultural and social innovation, demonstrating how the arts can contribute to a more conscious tourism development model aligned with sustainability principles.
