Funchal Municipality´s Environmental Awareness Campaign Reaches MEO Sons do Mar

Funchal City Council ran an environmental awareness campaign during the MEO Sons do Mar festival, held on September 4th and 5th at Santa Catarina Park.

The initiative aimed to make festival-goers more aware of not throwing cigarette butts on the ground and properly using the bins and recycling points available at the venue. To help with this, teams of volunteers carried out awareness activities with the public and handed out portable ashtrays to smokers to help reduce pollution.

The campaign is the result of a partnership between the City Council’s Environment Department and Youth Division, continuing similar actions carried out at other summer events.

The initiative aims to promote civic responsibility and sustainability, encouraging everyone to take part in keeping public spaces clean.
