INATEL Porto Santo Hotel awarded the “Night with Life” Award

The INATEL Porto Santo Hotel was awarded with the “Night with Life” – Silver Level, granted by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), within the scope of the LIFE Natura@night and LIFE Freiras projects. This distinction highlights the continuous progress of the measures implemented by the hotel, particularly in optimizing lighting management and adopting more efficient solutions, allowing the use of light to be adapted to the needs of each space without compromising guest comfort and safety.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the reduction of light pollution plays a fundamental role in the protection of various species, such as birds, marine animals, bats, and insects, and is of particular concern during the months of October and November, a period when young Cory’s shearwaters leave their nests, making it necessary to strengthen measures for the management of outdoor lighting to minimize impacts on this species.

The “Noite com Vida” Award, which distinguishes the INATEL Porto Santo Hotel, is awarded annually and encompasses four levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. This distinction reinforces the sustainability strategy of the INATEL Foundation and the INATEL Porto Santo Hotel, based on the continuous improvement of their environmental and social practices, promoting more responsible tourism and contributing to the preservation of natural heritage.
