Memorandum Signed to Conserve and Value the Ocean. ARDITI Promotes Expeditions to Study the Region’s Seas
ARDITI (Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology, and Innovation) has signed a memorandum of understanding focused on the conservation, study, and valuation of the ocean in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This agreement aims to strengthen local marine scientific research by promoting a series of expeditions destined to map and better understand the biodiversity and ecosystems of the seas surrounding the archipelago.
The project intends to unite efforts among the scientific community, governmental entities, and strategic partners to collect crucial oceanographic data. Through these expeditions and the use of advanced technology, the initiative will make it possible to identify sensitive areas, assess the impact of climate change, and monitor the health of the Region’s deep and coastal waters, serving as a foundation for future sustainability policies.
The signing of this memorandum reinforces Madeira’s positioning at the forefront of the “Blue Economy” and the protection of maritime heritage, therefore, these actions not only intend to deepen global scientific knowledge about the Atlantic, but also to promote ocean literacy among the population, raising society’s awareness regarding the urgency of protecting marine resources for future generations.
