The Municipal Garden is a showcase for sustainability

Funchal Municipal Gardens hosted the 4th edition of the Environmental Theatre Festival, an initiative organised by Funchal City Council that brought together schools, associations and the local community to raise environmental awareness. Under the theme “Green Attitude for a Healthy Planet”, the event highlighted the importance of environmental conservation through art, creativity and intergenerational participation.

The theatrical performances involved dozens of pupils, teachers and local organisations, who reused materials to create costumes and stage props. This sustainable aspect demonstrated how the reuse of resources can be given a new lease of life through artistic expression, encouraging more conscious and environmentally friendly practices.

The festival also enjoyed strong public support, attracting around 600 spectators to the Municipal Garden Auditorium. The initiative reinforced the importance of environmental education for the younger generations, promoting values of citizenship, sustainability and collective responsibility to build a greener and more conscious future.
