Distinguished Carnival Market

The 2026 Carnival Market, organized by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture through the Regional Directorate for Tourism, has been awarded the “Most Sustainable Event” certification, reinforcing the Region’s commitment to implementing good environmental, social and management practices in the organization of events. This award follows from the recognition given to the 2025 Christmas Market, consolidating a strategy to promote more responsible and sustainable tourism.

Held at the Placa Central on Avenida Arriaga, the event featured 25 stalls dedicated to promoting traditional products and regional cuisine, combining the celebration of cultural identity with the adoption of sustainability measures. The certification was the result of an independent audit process, which assessed criteria such as environmental management, food safety, noise control and the monitoring of the event’s impacts.

This distinction reinforces Madeira’s commitment to organizing sustainable events, promoting the continuous improvement of management practices, supporting local producers and creating experiences in line with the principles of sustainable development and the competitiveness of the tourist destination.
