‘Water Safety’ awareness campaign takes place in schools across Funchal
As part of the celebrations for Civilian Protection Month 2026, Funchal City Council is running an awareness-raising campaign entitled ‘Water Safety’ in various schools across the municipality. Organized by the company Frente MarFunchal between 2 and 6 March, the initiative involves students from the Jaime Moniz, Francisco Franco and Gonçalves Zarco schools, as part of a wider program of community-focused activities.
The sessions aim to impart essential knowledge about safe behavior to adopt on beaches, teaching young people how to prevent risky situations and recognize various dangers. During the sessions, students are taught to act responsibly, both for their own protection and to assist others, promoting conscious action in emergency scenarios.
For the municipality, this investment in school awareness-raising is fundamental to consolidating a culture of safety and preparing more aware and responsible citizens. In addition to young people, the program aims to raise awareness among professionals from various fields and the public regarding the importance of prevention and individual preparedness in critical situations in this type of environment.
